First Team in County Challenge Cup

On the Road to Oldham

October begins, and both of our open aged teams have cup competitions throughout the entire month. Our first team are the first ones to face a cup tie, as they travel to Oldham to face Springhead in the West Riding County Challenge Cup.

Springhead are currently top of the Manchester Football League's Premier Division, and are the only unbeaten team left in that league. They've won 6 of their opening 8 games, drawing in the other 2. They last played against the team who are currently second in the table, Bolton County, at home, beating them at their home ground 3-1, this is the result which sent them top. They've also got a +11 goal difference, displaying their capability to score goals, but they are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, conceding in each game played.

Our first team go into this game after having a weeks break from football, with their last result also being a home victory. After beating Ryburn United 5-1 at Beck Lane, they won't be lacking confidence as they make the journey across the Pennines. Similarly to Springhead, our first team have shown the same threat in front of goal this season. However, one thing that Jonny Ginnelly's side will have over their opposition, is that they've put on good defensive displays in order to claim clean sheets this season, so they'll go with the confidence that they have what it takes to progress in this competition.

All support for the lads ahead of the journey towards Oldham (the joys of the West Riding County Challenge Cup) to play a team showing great form at the start of the season, would be greatly appreciated by our first team, as they go into one of, if not, the toughest game of the season so far.
